This dynamic presentation will have a clear focus of enhancing a clinicians understanding of dealing with complex family dynamics that present in working with families of various ethnic origins. Understanding which specific theories may be more relevant will be a major theme of the training. The goals of the workshop are to enhance awareness of the necessity of not operating from a dominant culture perspective. Breaking through stereotypes, and developing a more intuitive way of working with each unique family will be emphasized
Dr. Kakaiya has been treating eating disorders since 1985. She is the Clinical Director of Healthy Within Inc. in San Diego. She has been a long standing member of IAEDP, NEDA and AED. She also runs a non profit,Healthy Within Foundation that trains over 20 volunteer interns each year to conduct prevention programs in middle and high schools in San Diego. She has authored a chapter in a book on Asian American Women by Jean Lau Chin. She has received numerous awards in San Diego for her commitment and passion to improving the body images of young girls all over San Diego!
