Partnering with a Yoga Teacher to Create a Successful and Integrated Treatment Program

Background: Yoga has gained momentum in the eating disorder community, as is widely used in treatment centers and in outpatient settings nationally and internationally. But how does an eating disorder professional evaluate a Yoga teacher in order to ensure client safety? What messages and word choices are used by the Yoga teacher, along with the physical practice taught, that promote positive self-esteem, along with physical and psychological recovery of your client? Learn how to integrate Yoga into eating disorder treatment by choosing an appropriate Yoga teacher that will complement your program.

Objectives: Participants will discuss the benefits of physical and psychological benefits of Yoga, along with the difference between a Yoga teacher and a Yoga therapist. collaborate. Participants will describe styles of Yoga most beneficial for their client, along with interpreting body language, appropriate word choices, messages and themes used by the Yoga teacher. Participants will be able to evaluate and choose a Yoga teacher in which to collaborate.

Eating Disorder Treatment Centers and Outpatient Practitioners are regularly offering Yoga as a component of their recovery program. However, most Yoga teacher training programs are focused on instruction in the physical practice of Yoga for a healthy population vs. a therapeutic model geared to individuals in need of rehabilitation. This workshop will offer clarity on how to choose and partner with an appropriate Yoga Teacher, while understanding the difference between a Yoga teacher and a Yoga Therapist.

She is an author and national presenter. Beverly has created, cultivated and sold various healthcare businesses. In her career, she has also consulted with healthcare entities who wish to maximize their bottom line. Beverly is Founder and former CEO of the Reconnect with Food Programs at the Inner Door Center, acquired by a private company in 2016. Since leaving the Inner Door Center in 2017, she remains active in the national and local Eating Disorder community through consulting, lecturing, board positions, supervising and mentoring.
