Background: Working in the field of eating disorders not only means finding strategies for treatment but also effective ways to prevent what is now becoming an epidemic. We will reflect upon this by bringing in the results of intervention made in schools with adolescents, their parents and teachers.

Objectives: Following this presentation, participants will be able to identify, utilize and explain effective methods and strategies in order to prevent eatind disorders and help families and communities to detect early signs of ED.

Although a great deal of work is being done for preventing eating disorders, I think too little time and money is dedicate in the discussion of methods and outcomes of this work. Prevention has a lot to do also with social changes and community policy. I will present a work done in a high school in Italy and I will show the results of a questionnaire that has been submitted to students regarding stereotypes and false myths on diets, body image, health, beauty etc.

We will reflect upon ways to do prevention of Eating Disorders and body image issues through the presentation of a work done in High schools in Italy and the outcomes of a questionnaire submitted to the students on how they perceive health, beauty, and other issues regarding relationship with food and body image. The economic and social crises we are facing now is compelling us as professionals to help young generation to grow out of false myths and stereotypes and find again their innate intuition that can lead them through these difficult times and make them more resilient. Therefore my presentation will show different ways we can use to do prevention in schools, families, sport center etc. More over we will see how important this is to make an impact on policy and media so that no more distorted message regarding ideal beauty are transmitted. We will also see how social networks can be addressed and used.
