This is designed to be a 3 hour presentation that will inform participants of how to utilize Exposure with Response Prevention Therapy for the treatment of Anorexia in an outpatient setting. The presentation will describe theory, research, and case presentations to illustrate the implementation of relevant concepts in practice, comparing and contrasting their use in OCD to their use with ED.

A subset of those suffering from symptoms of Anorexia can be conceptualized and treated by understanding obsessive compulsive aspects of disordered eating and associated thought processes. The clinician can look at the problem through the lens of OCD. The participants will better understand how OCD is treated using Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) and learn to implement pertinent concepts and treatment modalities into ED treatment. ERP, ACT, DBT, and cognitive therapy techniques and concepts can be integrated into a modality of treatment that can be effectively implemented in an outpatient environment.

Goals include participants understanding the basic concepts and techniques of ERP for OCD and how those are relevant to a subset of sufferers of an ED. The presenters will demonstrate how to effectively integrate the exposure elements with concepts from ACT and cognitive therapy during experiential therapies. This will include a demonstration of these techniques.

This methodology addresses assessment, readiness for treatment, motivational issues, psycho-education, and implementation of experiential therapies. It can be used to address treatment compliance, food fears, and body image distortion.

The presenters have experience in outpatient, residential, and inpatient environments and will focus on how to utilize these techniques effectively in an outpatient setting.
