Curing The Incurable

Abstract:

Clinical experience of integrating “new” therapies into the standard treatment of Eating Disorder patients has given us a new dimension in understanding the many factors that come into play and must be considered when treating any eating disorder.

A cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach takes into consideration psychological and neurobiochemical  aspects and how they interact.  This is crucial for the patient to survive  in a cultural environment that is promoting  insecurity through alienation and addictive behaviors. This approach should produce better treatment outcomes.

Willpower is a myth that only works once you have rewired your brain and body through psychological and neurobiochemical treatments. Breaking the habit of an eating disorder is about understanding how to match the right therapy that resonates on a biochemical and psychological level with the patient. This empowers them  and encourages  motivation from within.

The session will focus on how to integrate and combine new therapies into the standard treatment for patients suffering from Bulimia Nervosa .  Including but not limited to: addiction therapy, animal assisted therapy, and somatic experience therapy into the standard treatment of  patients suffering from Bulimia Nervosa. We will be drawing on client cases, most of which have been diagnosed as chronic, “not motivated”  and "Incurable" by the public health care system.

The session will show how it is possible to make new pathways into the patient’s brain and body.  This will encourage a reward-driven change of behavior and thereby making the treatment-outcome higher.
