Proposal Abstract:

Theme: Authenticity

The most important element in a therapist is their comfort level within themselves. The ability to bring one’s authentic self into any environment produces a healing connection.

Ideas: experiential therpaies being used to cultivate authenticity and healing in eating disorder clients

Goal: educate, cultivate and create an atmosphere for authenticity for both treating professionals and clients. Treating professionals will learn and understand the foundation of authenticity, how to incorporate it in indiviual and grop sessions while becoming more comfortable with themselves as individuals.

A great way for the therapist to bring authenticity in to therapeutic setting is through the use of experiential therapies such as psychodrama, music, and dance therapy, visual and audio presentations. Authenticity in a therapist offers those who struggle with eating disorders a tangible role model that can coach and instill confidence by promoting self definition in their clients. The therapist’s authenticity is powerful in enhancing self-discovery and self-expression, inquiry into one's inner life, therefore facilitating an emotional release stirring patients’ psyche thus accelerating the systematic healing process.
