Certification reflects achievement beyond a basic level of knowlegeand requires continued education and skills development in order to maintain. Research has shown that certified professionals in other healthcare fields demonstrate greater levels of confidence in their practice, decision making ability, ability to detect complications, have more effective communication and collaboration with other healthcare team members and fewer adverse events and errors in patient care (Ballard, 2003; Cary, 2001; Whitaker, Smolenski & Carson, 2000). As the rate of individuals affected by eating disorders continues to grow, there is a greater need for qualified treatment providers in the field and iaedp recognizes this need. This workshop will provide attendees with a step-by-step guide for understanding the credentialing process for the Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS); Certified Eating Disorders Registered Dietitian (CEDRD) and the Equivalency designation. Information will be provided through presentation and handouts reqarding the educational requirements including the additional four core eating disorders courses, the Case Study, and the supervised hours needed. Ethical considerations will be reviewed. In addition, benefits of obtaining a certification in the field of eating disorders will be presented and discussed as a group. There will be time for questions, answers and group interaction.
