In this patient population, treatments are often inappropriate for a patient’s characteristics, resulting in widely accepted treatment approaches falling short of sustaining recovery, contributing to high relapse rates among patients. In this presentation, Dr. Bishop will discuss data supporting the need and techniques effective in tailoring treatment to patient characteristics.

Through examining research regarding characteristics of the eating disorder patient population, specifically, focusing on neurocognitive processing and outlying temperaments, this presentation identifies the need to tailor treatment to patient characteristics in order to optimize outcomes.  Many widely accepted treatment approaches fall short in sustaining reduction of eating disorder symptoms within this patient population, so techniques should be used to tailor treatment to the needs of the patient. This presentation presents clinical data supporting these observations and elaborates tangible techniques the participants can incorporate into daily work with the eating disorder patient population.
