Saturday, March 5, 2011: 2:00 PM-5:30 PM
Point Hilton at Squaw Peak
Eating disorders are often reinforced and perpetuated by perfectionism, obsessiveness, stubbornness and constant comparisons. These traits bolster disordered behavior and cement eating disorders in place. Treatment that does not address these undermining traits as well as teach countering skills leaves patients vulnerable to relapse. This workshop will explore these traits that work to maintain an eating disorder. Sondra will explore through case discussion, eating exercises and experiential activities: identifying labeling and challenging these rigid traits by modeling corrective thinking and alternative behaviors that oppose the perfectionism, stubbornness and comparison in order to foster change and strengthen recovery.

Eating disorders are often reinforced and perpetuated by perfectionism, obsessiveness, stubbornness and constant comparisons.  These traits bolster disordered behavior and cement eating disorders in place.  Treatment that does not adequately address these undermining traits as well as teach countering skills leaves the patients vulnerable to relapse.  This workshop will explore these traits that work to maintain an eating disorder.  The presenters (seasoned panel) will explore through case discussion, eating exercises and experiential activities: identifying, labeling and challenging these rigid traits by modeling corrective thinking and alternative behaviors that oppose the perfectionism, stubbornness and comparison in order to foster change and strengthen recovery.

Through case discussion, actual description of eating events and experiential activities which I use in my outpatient treatment will show how to identify and label these traits that keep the eating disorder in place, ultimately helping patients to label them to be able to introduce and incorporate different thoughts and actions.  It is a combination of seeing and accepting healthy modeling and retraining their own minds.

There will be opportunity to discuss difficult cases, eating events and challenges will be explored, exercises and skills will be provided and practical usable guidance and support that will enhance your treatment will be provided.
