An experience is worth a thousand words. In this session you will learn six cutting-edge nutrition experiences that you can lead both outpatient and residential client's through in order to advance them in their recovery. The first experience that we will discuss is covert behavior rehearsal (CBR). CBR can decrease the client's anxiety towards challenging eating experiences. The second is mindful/ conscious eating which will aide the client in the following four experiences. The third experience is mirrored eating which is a type of guided intuitive eating. Mirrored eating can help the client become aware of subtle somatic cues with your aide. The fourth experience is blindfold eating which is a led experience that involves food and a blindfold. By taking away vision, a highly palatable experience will show the client how a meal can be different when the taste of food is intensified and focused on. The fifth experience is the therapeutic food day. This experience enlists the help of challenging food and systematic desensitization. The final experience is the solo with food in which graduated exposure and systematic desensitization allow the client to experience an abundance of food on her own while supported by the therapeutic environment. Throughout this session you will learn how to recognize when your client's are ready for each experience as well as how to present and process them. This session in interactive, be prepared to share any experiential exercises that you have developed and to offer your own insights and experience as appropriate.
